Heavenly Father has set up a line of communication that allows us
to talk with Him intimately about our lives and when we obey His commandments
and follow His direction, Father in Heaven blesses us with knowledge as well as
other blessings that He knows that we need. The blessings that Heavenly Father
gives to us, His children, occur when He knows we will be most receptive to
them. These blessings can include revelation. Revelation and inspiration is how
God communicates with us while on earth and is how we learn the truth of all
things. Thus, we pray to commune with God and to express our desires to Him,
and through revelation, He gives us the information we need and/or desire. KW
“…When we address our Heavenly Father, we should put aside our
working words and clothe our prayers in special language of reverence and
respect. In offering prayers in the English language, members of our Church do
not address our Heavenly Father with the same words we use in speaking to a
fellow worker, to an employee or employer, or to a merchant in the marketplace.
We use special words that have been sanctified by use in inspired
communications, words that have been recommended to us and modeled for us by
those we sustain as prophets and inspired teachers.”
~Elder Dallin H. Oaks, "The Language of Prayer" General Conference
4/1993
“We do not need to go through secretaries or make an appointment
to reach the throne of grace. He is reachable at any time and any place.”
~President James E. Faust, "The Lifeline of Prayer" General Conference
4/2002
"The knowledge which we seek, the answers for which we desire
today to meet the challenges of a complex and changing world can be ours when
we willingly obey the Lord’s commandments. I quote once again the words of the
Lord: ‘He that keepeth [God’s] commandments receiveth truth and light, until he
is glorified in truth and knoweth all things.’”
~President Thomas S. Monson, "Obedience Brings Blessings" General
Conference, 4/2013
“The spirit of revelation is available to every person who
receives by proper priesthood authority the saving ordinances of baptism by
immersion for the remission of sins and the laying on of hands for the gift of
the Holy Ghost-and who is acting in faith to fulfill the priesthood injunction
of ‘receive the Holy Ghost.’”
~Elder David A. Bednar, "The Spirit of Revelation" General Conference
4/2011
"Things of the Spirit need not—indeed, should not—require our
uninterrupted time and attention. Ordinary work-a-day things occupy most of our
attention. And that is as it should be. We are mortal beings living in this
physical world.
"Spiritual things are like leavening. By measure they may be
very small, but by influence they affect all that we do. Continuing revelation
is fundamental to the gospel of Jesus Christ."
~President Boyd K. Packer, "Revelation in a Changing World" General
Conference 10/1989
“Pray to your Heavenly Father. This is His sacred work. He will
guide you in what to do. He will open doors, remove roadblocks, and help you
overcome obstacles.”
~Elder Neil A. Andersen, "It's a Miracle" General Conference 4/2013
"The Holy Ghost communicates important information that we
need to guide us in our mortal journey. When it is crisp and clear and
essential, it warrants the title of revelation. When it is a series of
promptings we often have to guide us step by step to a worthy objective, for
the purpose of this message, it is inspiration."
~Elder Richard G. Scott, "How to Obtain Revelation and Inspiration for Your Personal
Life" General conference 4/2012
“Most frequently, revelation comes in small increment over time
and is granted according to our desire, worthiness, and preparation.”
~Elder David A. Bednar, "The Spirit of Revelation" General Conference
4/2011
“You will not realize your potential without prayer, study,
obedience, and diligence.”
~Elder Robert D. Hales, "This Is the Way; and There Is None Other Way" BYU
Fireside 1/1982
“Access to our Creator through our Savior is surely one of the
great privileges and blessings of our lives. I have learned from countless
personal experiences that great is the power of prayer. No earthly authority
can separate us from direct access to our Creator."
~President James E. Faust, "The Lifeline of Prayer" General Conference
4/2002
